Welcome to Cyprus Marine Club Website The House of Cyprus ShippingIn June 1998 the Cyprus Marine Club was founded by Mr. Michael Ioannides, the Club’s President, to begin the fulfillment of his vision. Michael Ioannides vision is to create a Cyprus shipping Entity, which is illustrated clearly in the brochure of the Cyprus Marine Club.
What the vision of Mr. Michael Ioannides wants to illustrate and emphasize is the following:
Firstly, despite the fact that Cyprus is the sixth largest flag in the world, it lacks shipping infrastructure and know-how. In order to achieve the infrastructure and the know-how, Cypriots, instead of investing only in tourism and other services, must invest in shipping by acquiring vessels flying the Cyprus flag and managed by the Cyprus Marine Club through the creation of the Cyprus Shipping Investment Fund by a consortium of Cypriot and Greek businessmen and investors. Through the Cyprus Shipping Investment Fund, three vessels acquired, the M/V “KITI”, the M/V “MOUNT ATHOS” and the M/V/ “MOUNT TROODOS”, which are managed by the Admibros Shipmanagement Co. Ltd. Controlled by Cypriot business people experts in their field.
Secondly, with the acquisition of Cyprus owned and managed vessels, Cyprus will be enabled to transport its own imported commodities which are mainly, grain, crude oil, fuel oil and forest products. Until now, such commodities are carried under C&F which means that receivers of commodities (i.e. the Cyprus Government for instance) are not responsible for the carriage of goods and their only responsibility begins when the goods are discharged in the port of Limassol. Although such a method is not difficult in terms of responsibilities, is on the other hand costly to the Government and to the end user which is the consumer. However, with the acquisition of Cyprus vessels the terms of trade can change from C&F to FOB and as a result of this money will be saved and competition will increase, which increase, which is very “healthy” for the Government and the society as a whole. Such an achievement was accomplished for a first time in the history of the Cyprus Grain Commission, when the Cyprus Marine Club under the auspices of Mr. Michael Ioannides, managed to introduce to the Cyprus Grain Commission the FOB method, after a research study which was approved and eventually adopted by the Cyprus grain commission. As a result of this the tender for the transportation of grain from Syria to Cyprus under FOB terms was awarded to Admibros Shipmanagement Co. Ltd., under which the Cyprus Government saved approximately US$1000000 (one million US Dollars). (click to read more)
